WorldRemit Cash Pickup: How It Works

WorldRemit cash pickup: the recipient collects cash with photo ID and a transfer reference

A WorldRemit cash pickup lets your recipient collect physical cash from a supported location in WorldRemit's local partner network. WorldRemit says funds are usually available to collect instantly. Your recipient needs a valid photo ID and the transaction reference, and cash pickup is not available in every country.

What cash pickup is

WorldRemit describes it as a payment your recipient can collect as cash from a supported location. You choose it as the receive method when you set up a transfer, if it is offered for the country.

What your recipient needs

WorldRemit lists two things:

  1. A valid photo ID that shows their full name. The name must match the details on the transaction, so check it is accurate before you send.
  2. The transaction reference. WorldRemit sends it to your recipient by SMS when the payment is ready, so the phone number must be correct. You can also share it yourself: log in, go to the Transfer Status page and find the Share option.

When is the cash ready?

WorldRemit says funds are usually available to collect instantly. In some cases it may need extra information from you before the transaction can be processed. See WorldRemit verification taking too long if a transfer is held.

Does the recipient pay a fee?

WorldRemit says your recipient is not charged by WorldRemit or any partner in its network when collecting cash. If you send mobile money instead and your recipient withdraws it from a third party, that third party may charge a fee. Compare options in the mobile money guide.

If your recipient cannot collect

WorldRemit suggests checking that your recipient:

If it still fails, check the Transfer Status page in the app or website, where you may be able to change the details, then contact WorldRemit. For general tracking, read how to track a WorldRemit transfer.

A note on rounded amounts

WorldRemit says Zimbabwe has had a coin shortage, and recommends sending rounded amounts so cash pickup does not run into problems.

Is cash pickup available for you?

WorldRemit says to select the region your recipient lives in to see if cash pickup is available there. The cost and speed depend on the receiving country, receive method and how you pay, see WorldRemit fees.
