WorldRemit Verification: What ID You May Need
WorldRemit is required by law to verify its customers. Usually it checks your name, address and date of birth, and asks for a copy of a government-issued photo ID. It says most checks happen within 5 minutes of submitting documents, but to allow up to 24 to 48 hours. The full name and date of birth on your ID must match your WorldRemit account.
Why WorldRemit verifies you
WorldRemit says it is a financially regulated company and must verify all customers. What it needs depends on where you send from and how much, because each country has its own laws. Sometimes it may also ask about the purpose of your transfer or the source of your funds.
What ID is accepted
WorldRemit's help page lists:
- National ID. It should be issued in the country you send from. Show the front and back, with the document number visible and no glare.
- Passport. All four corners should be visible, showing your photo, full name and date of birth.
- Driving licence. Accepted only if you are outside the EU, in high resolution, with the expiry date and place of issue.
You may need extra documents depending on where you send from and the amount.
What the photo must show
A high-quality photo or scan of a valid ID showing the document number, your photo, your full name, your date of birth, the expiry date and the place of issue if any. If there is a machine-readable zone (the two lines of letters and numbers at the bottom), it must be fully visible.
Details must match
WorldRemit says your full name and date of birth must match your account. If anything does not match, contact customer service to have your details amended. Getting this right when you sign up avoids delays, see how to create a WorldRemit account.
Address verification
WorldRemit says address verification only applies to customers sending from New Zealand. It would email you, and you reply with a document that:
- shows your full name and home address, not a PO box or workplace,
- is dated within the last 3 months,
- is a utility bill (gas, electricity, water or insurance), a driving licence or a bank statement. Mobile phone bills are not accepted.
Why it may ask you to resend
WorldRemit says the original photo may have been unclear, or it may need an extra document. Use the link in its email to upload again, with a high-quality image.
